Barrier requirements vary dramatically by product. Produce may need a more breathable structure, while meats, nuts, cheese or sensitive industrial products may require stronger oxygen or moisture control.

A barrier review should include the product, desired shelf life, packaging format, storage conditions, distribution exposure, seal method and puncture risk. The best structure also accounts for how the package will be filled and handled.

Barrier performance alone is not enough if the film fails at the seal, cracks during distribution or creates line-speed problems. PKG can evaluate the complete performance window.
